CREATE A ROOM LIKE THIS NO MATTER YOUR BUDGET WITH A FEW SIMPLE DESIGN TIPS:

1. Make a statement with a speckled backsplash.
This glossy girly room gets visual grit from the speckled Formica backsplash used in both the High and Low sets. Made to look like trendy terrazzo, the material boasts a retro vibe, but the mosaic tradition actually dates back to the 16th century, when Venetian stoneworkers incorporated marble remnants into their terraces (or terrazzos).

2. Store in style
Forgoing upper cabinetry requires upping your storage game. Chic white canisters with subtle details are great for stashing essentials – from rice and pasta to sugar and flour – and there’s one for you, whatever your budget.

  4. Bloomingville stoneware in White with bamboo lid, $61 per 3-piece set, Amazon.ca.

3. Up the ante with gold pulls.
This room doesn’t pull any deco- rative punches – including the cabinetry hardware. Extra long and brilliant gold, it’s not timid. We’re drawn to this look in its many manifestations, from rounded to pin-straight, uniform to asymmetrical, matte to shiny.

4. Reimagine matchy-matchy
The stylish sect has long shunned matching dinnerware sets, opting for the eclectic look of combining separates. Simple lines and a strict palette define this cotton candy-meets-rock ’n’ roll kitchen, so we chose plain dishes in the pinks, teals and ambers already existing in the space.

5. Opt for display-worthy serving trays
Breakfast is served: Fresh fruit, toast and coffee – the makings of a grab-and-go morning meal – are easily set on convenient boards, trays and platters. But this serve-ware is just as handy for offerings like hors d’oeuvres, charcuterie and more, so stock up to stack up in any entertaining situation.
